Shirley M. Stetser of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania died Saturday, May 21, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Manor. She was 93 years old. Shirley was born February 23, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late George Stetser and the late Marie Stetser (nee - Arland). She is the beloved sister of the late Anna May and Robert Stetser; cherished aunt of Shirley Ann Warmack, Marsha Warmack, John Ursbruck, Julie Boute, and Bob Stetser and Ron Stetser. She is also survived by a very loving cousin and caregiver, Edith Cerebi, and many loving grand and great-grand nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Shirley was raised and educated in the Olney neighborhood of Philadelphia where she attended both Olney Elementary school and Olney High School. She would continue to be an active member of the community, finding a second home and family with the congregation of Olney Baptist Church. She was a member of the choir and often performed solos, gave her time to the Women's Missionary Society, taught Sunday School, and served on the Flower Committee. In the 1960s, Shirley moved out of the city and into Montgomery County where she resided in Cheltenham and then in Rockledge, and finally settled into Redeemer Village. During her working years, Shirley was employed in downtown Philadelphia “behind the scenes,” as she liked to say, at PNC Bank for more than 30 years, finally retiring in 1988. In her free time, she was a devoted and loving aunt to all of her family. Shirley also enjoyed shopping, participating in flea markets, and traveling.
Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 9:30 A.M. funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at Olney Baptist Church of Philadelphia, 239 West Chew Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19120. Her graveside service followed at Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Road, Roslyn, PA 19001.
